Postgraduate studies
The range of academic disciplines offered at Imperial College London facilitates a high level of interdisciplinary interaction and innovation between its four faculties (Engineering, Natural Sciences, Medicine and Business) as well as the smaller Humanities Programme.
Studying a PhD at Imperial College is intellectually demanding but rewarding. Lasting 3 to 4 years in duration, a PhD provides students with a training in research, as well as the opportunity to work alongside world class academics and make a unique contribution to human knowledge. Doctoral Training Centres (DTC) at Imperial College are a new approach to doctoral study. The programmes follow a ‘1+3’ framework where the first year is spent on an MSc or MRes followed by a three-year PhD. It involves a considerable amount of interdisciplinary work, as well as emphasising the development of transferrable and professional skills.
