The Ministry of Education launched its "Mandarin On-the-Go in Taiwan" program in August 2017. It invited the Ministry of Transportation and Communication’s Tourism Bureau, and the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs to be co-organizers, and integrated tourism and Chinese-learning resources to create a brand new study-tour model.
Chinese Language Centers associated with universities in different parts of Taiwan are offering specially selected distinctive study tours each year, and we want to invite more international visitors to come on these tours and experience traveling and learning Chinese in Taiwan. "Learn Chinese, as you Explore Taiwan!"
"Mandarin On-the-Go" links culture with real life, and it brings learners and social environments, "travelling" and "learning" together. It puts participants in real environments where they can use the language they’re learning to engage socially: "learning by using Chinese in daily life". This also makes it possible for tourism to give a greater sense of understanding and connection rather than superficial impressions. Participants will remember more of what they see and hear, and treasure the increased meaning and pleasure of travel.
An attractive feature of learning Chinese in Taiwan is the professional and enthusiastic teachers who will lead students into the world of the Chinese language and culture with high-quality teaching materials, and digital teaching methods. Outside the classroom, the cultural traditions and traditional Chinese characters that Taiwan retains, people’s friendliness and hospitality, Taiwan’s rich and diverse ways of life, free and open society and international links, all fill every corner, street, and city with language and culture learning pleasures.
The "Mandarin On-the-Go in Taiwan" website was created to provide a one-stop service to foreigners who want to find out more about the study tours. It outlines all the currently available featured study tours for the year, and people can register there for the tours. It also provides a database of the associated teaching materials designed by the collaborating Chinese Language Centers, travelers’ experience, and general information related to tourism and Chinese-learning in Taiwan. It is a testimony to the achievements of all the cooperative units that worked together to create the exciting "Mandarin On-the-Go in Taiwan" program.
We look forward to seeing our overseas friends who try out the "Mandarin On-the-Go in Taiwan" program experience and enjoy the beauty of Taiwan’s natural landscape and Taiwanese customs, interact more with local people, feel comfortable speaking Chinese, and savour the distinct humanity and life philosophy of Taiwan’s people!
