TS as one of the best research universities in Indonesia would like to invite NTHU students to participate in the Community and Technological Camp (Comm TECH) Camp Highlight 2018 which will take place in Surabaya Indonesia on 9 – 21 July 2018. Designed as a platform to discuss and solve local problems, we modified this program into a 13-day program integrating new concepts and innovations.
The participants will be challenged to critically solve real problems using a project based model.
It becomes even more attractive because at the end of the program, all participants will have an opportunity to present their project and ideas which were developed during the course of the program in front of a wider audience.
CommTECH program is a short course program designed to facilitate and share better understanding of complex issues related with the intertwining of societal and technological problems, especially in Indonesia. It is also a platform to open up an opportunity to exchange ideas and to develop a mutual vision for the future of our community.
Under the theme, “Solving Local Problems with Global Knowledge”, this program provides courses and discussions on particular topics, visitation and discussion with government and non-government agencies, society engagement, Indonesian Language courses, learning traditional music and dances, visit to main tourist destinations, and for sure tasting delicious Indonesian food.
The good news is ITS provides full and partial scholarships for participants from different institutions and countries to join this program.
So, what are you waiting for?
Mark your calendar and register now for this terrific program. Many experiences beyond your imagination await!
Sub Course A:
Exploring The Oceans : Mapping Sea Surface & Seabed Surface
Only about 5% of the world's sea floor has been mapped in some detail. Since the ocean occupies roughly 70% of the Earth's surface, this leaves approximately 65% of the Earth (excluding dry land) unexplored. That is quite a lot of Earth left to explore! In CommTECH Camp Highlight 2018, this course will take you to discuss and practice on mapping the sea surface and subsurface in Indonesia waters. The highlights in this subject consist of sea floor mapping, positioning at the sea and mapping water parameters using satellite imagery. This program is designed to suit bachelors, masters or doctoral students with or without specific knowledge in ocean mapping.
Sub Course B: Exploring The Biodiversity of Coastal Ecosystem
Indonesia is known as a mega-biodiversity country. Indonesia is an archipelagic state, its territory stretches from 6º N to 10º S and from 95º E to 142º E, comprises about 18,110 islands with a coastline of about 108,920 km. The diversity of Indonesian marine life is hard to be precisely reported, new species are still being described and many more are still unknown. InCommTECH Camp Highlight 2018, our subjects will take you to discuss and simulate the biodiversity in this archipelagic country, Indonesia. The highlights in this subject consist of Exploring The Microbial Diversity in Tropical Mangrove Rhizosphere, Vegetation Analysis of Mangrove Ecosystem, Birdwatching on Track, Identification and Analysis of Parasite for HealthyFood, Conservation of Germplasm from Coastal Ecosystem and final review. This program is designed to suit bachelors, masters or doctoral students with or without specific knowledge in biology or coastal management.
Sub Course C:
Build Your Own Boat : Designing, Building and Operating Unmanned Surface Vehicle
In the era of technology and communication, the task of humans increasingly helped by the presence of robot technology. This technology has begun to enter the field of naval architecture in which one of them is Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), a vehicle that operate on the surface of the water (watercraft) without a crew and controlled manually or autonomously via the Ground Control Station (GCS). In CommTECH Camp Highlight 2018, we will take you to understand and build your own ship prototype. The highlights in this subjects is that you will learn how to design, build, and operate your own ship.
